Hi, I’m Angelina Simmons—teacher-author and founder of Baby Boo’s Backpack! As a dedicated early learning teacher trying to live up to my ‘World’s Best Teacher’ mug, I used to spend HOURS searching for age appropriate activities that would keep my students’ attention. It was a struggle to balance working full-time and family life, let alone building curriculum from scratch. Once I started putting my own ideas together and implementing them in the classroom, my co-workers started to take notice! They began asking to borrow things that I had made for their classrooms which soon turned into them asking me to put together 'just this little thing' for them. I realized I wasn't the only teacher struggling to find curriculum that was ready to implement all in one spot---hence, Baby Boo's Backpack was born!
I am an Early Childhood Infant Toddler Specialist who works as Education Coordinator at a private Early Learning School while I make these amazing educational printables for you on the side! I believe that play is purposeful and learning should always be fun! My own personal teaching mission is to INSPIRE a Life-long LOVE of Learning in each child—which is why toddlers are my jam!
As Education Coordinator, I oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of daily programming from age 10 months to 5 years. I also compose parent resources, compile age-specific activities for specialty children’s programs (ex. Little Chefs and Visual Arts), and design special educational and art summer camps.
I hold a current ECE Certificate with Infant Toddler Certification, have Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE) Training and have completed countless hours of professional development covering topics from Expressive Play Therapy to Building STEM Curriculum. I have almost 20 years of experience in a variety of early learning programs: Young Parents Program, preschools, full-day daycares, infant-toddler rooms, Junior Kindergarten programs and, of course, taking care of my own beautiful daughter.
The truth is, I do what I do for the children. Simply put I love to see my students’ faces light up after I've transformed our classroom into a new learning theme. Immersing them in a topic they love and watching them explore, experiment and experience it with all their senses is the very best reward!
I live in the beautiful, sunny Okanagan Valley in Southern BC, Canada. I am the very proud mother of my angel-daughter Sevanah, aka "Baby Boo". She is the inspiration for this site and my motivation for why I do what I do. Sevanah, was a beautiful, active seven-year-old girl who loved to sing, dance, create artistic masterpieces and explore the outdoors. Her incredible imagination and kind heart always had her making cards, pictures and ‘activity sheets’ for her loved ones and friends. There was never a family gathering without some of her creations being handed out to their intended recipient--they were all made specifically with each person in mind. Sevanah’s devastating death has left me heartbroken but I find healing through creating and designing fun learning activities for young children.
When I am not in the classroom or making resources for your classroom, you can find me making feltboard creations for my students, hiking, soaking up the warm sunshine on a lakeside walk or spending quality time with those I love most!
I hope you enjoy Baby Boo's Backpack!
